Where can you find the best burger spot in America? It’s right here in Atlanta. But you might be surprised by both the restaurant and the burger that earned the title.
Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q earned the award. You read that right. A barbecue restaurant was picked as the best burger spot in America with its chopped brisket “burger.”
The website Yelp unveiled its top 100 burgers in America leading into Memorial Day. The holiday marks the official start of the burger “search season” on the website.
“Yelpers love their burgers! From bacon barbecue burgers to hummus-topped veggie burgers, and even sushi burgers (yes, that’s a thing!), they’re one of the most searched foods on Yelp. The list features choices for every burger type and taste, from fast-food faves and juicy diner classics to outrageous stack-ups at the latest pop-up joints—and a host of international mashups, too,” the website noted.
Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q’s “burger” consists of chopped brisket, melting pimento cheese, jalapeño mayo, bacon, red onion, and pickle, all on a bun.
“I would eat this for the rest of my life if I could,” Yelp reviewer Maggie L. noted. “I’m from Raleigh, NC, and this was the first meal I had while visiting Georgia. I can’t put into words how great the food and drinks are.”
“Yelpers want their burgers ‘cued up and saucy, just like the Texas-style patties at our No. 1 pick, Atlanta’s Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q,” the article noted. “Their famous chopped brisket burger loaded with bacon and cheese is so good, customers demand it at the second location—where it’s not even on the official menu.”
“The smell of the barbecue beats you to the door,” reviewer Lexi R. said in her review. “To see those smokers and grills going off assures you that you’re in for something good! It’s more of a country, rustic setting on the inside, which aligns with what’s being served. Come on in and get cozy because you’re about to get stuffed.”
“With nearly 2,500 5-star reviews on Yelp, this Texas-inspired BBQ joint has nabbed the top spot on our list with its juicy, barbecued spin on the classic American burger. Instead of a typical ground-beef patty, you get a hefty helping of chopped Angus beef brisket, along with peppery bacon, melted house-made pimento cheese, jalapeno mayo, tomato, red onion, and pickles on a toasted brioche bun,” noted the website.
Brothers Jonathan and Justin Fox created the “burger” in 2007 as a joke. They wanted to jump on the burger craze, but since they operated a barbecue restaurant, there was no grill, and they used the ingredients they already had in the kitchen, namely chopped brisket. It was an instant success.
“We were throwing things against the wall to see what stuck,” Jonathan Fox told Yelp. “It was our first go, and we kind of nailed it.”
“Brooooo let me tell you...Just go here,” Alex C. noted in his review. “Don’t even think about it. Just go. And when you do go.. GET THE BRISKET. OH MY LORD. I have been thinking about that brisket all day and I’m pretty sure I dreamt of it. As soon as I had a bite of that brisket I knew. We visited from Orlando but if I ever find myself in Atlanta I am most definitely coming back and I am DEFINITELY getting some brisket. That’s it. That’s the end of my review. Brisket. Nuff said. Brisket. Get it.”
“To this day, they push the limits of traditional ‘cue (and traditional burgers), with specials like the popular half-pound Smoked Brisket Cheeseburger on a fresh-baked potato roll with Everything Bagel seasoning, served with such unique house-made sides as Spicy Green Beans, Brisket Chili, Frito Pie, and mac & cheese,” Yelp noted in crowning Fox Bros.
Another Atlanta establishment checked in as the third-best burger spot in America. That honor went to the Slutty Vegan. With vegan burgers like the Menage A Trois, One Night Stand, Fussy Hussy, and Sloppy Toppy, the restaurant regularly receives five-star reviews from customers.
“I’m not vegan,” reviewer Susan J. stated in her Yelp review. “This was good food. If all vegan food tastes this good, I’d become a vegan! My group ordered a burger, chicken sandwich, and a chili dog. Everything was excellent!”

“While guests are playfully greeted as ‘sluts’ by sassy staffers, it’s all good vibes and positive energy at this take-out-only diner founded by Pinky Cole,” Yelp noted. “The Atlanta restaurateur started selling signature burgers from her apartment in 2018 and now co-owns and operates 10 brick-and-mortar locations in Georgia, Alabama, and New York City.”
Two other Atlanta restaurants made the list. Stockyard Burgers and Bones took the 34th spot, while Farm Burger checked in at No. 85.
