A 6-year-old was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis and another victim was airlifted to Baptist Memorial Hospital, also in Memphis, police said. Their conditions were unknown.
Another four victims were treated at Tennova Healthcare in Dyersburg, about 80 miles north of Memphis in western Tennessee.
Stephanie Childress was sitting down, waiting to cook dinner when she heard two shots. She was one of the first on the scene.
Childress lives four houses down from the scene, and told WSB-TV's sister station FOX13, "Innocent kids got hurt for no reason and I am scared to death that they haven't caught anyone."
"As a mom, you want to help," Childress said. "You don't want to see anyone else's kids get hurt, and just, I felt I could do more, and it hurts that couldn't do more," she said with tears in her eyes.
She said this area isn't used to tragic events like this.
"My son walks up these streets. It's very unnerving," she said.
Police say no motive is known at this time as they are currently seeking one person of interest.
