Police said William Hudson, 46, who works at the Norcross Extended Stay on Pelican Drive in Norcross, was rushed into surgery in very critical condition.

Witnesses said he was gunned down in the entryway around 5:30 a.m. Thursday before the gunmen ran away.

Investigators say Hudson was hit several times.

Officers arrived in less than five minutes, but the gunman had already vanished.

Gwinnett County police crime scene technicians spent hours collecting evidence from at least 20 different spots on the sidewalk, including potential blood droppings and clothes.

Late Thursday afternoon, police identified Xavier Geder, 32, as the suspected shooter. There are two active warrants for Geder for aggravated assault and aggravated battery. The motive for the shooting is still being investigated. %

Residents told Channel 2's Tony Thomas that Hudson works overnights at the motel.

“He was a good guy. He worked hard and did his job,” said Merry Parris, who lives at the motel.

“It’s just awful. Somebody that’s going to shoot somebody over nothing,” resident Chris Hardy said.
