MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — One child is dead and another was rescued after an accident at a state park.
Authorities said a teen drowned at High Falls State Park on Tuesday. The Monroe County Emergency Services said crews later rescued another teen.
"Child has been rescued. He will be taken to one of our ambulances to be assessed and transported for evaluation," the Facebook post read.
Emergency crews told Jones because of the recent rain, water levels were up and may have contributed to what happened.
Video that aired on Channel 2 Action News at 4 showed a helicopter and a firefighter rescuing James Burdette, 17, from the air at the state park.
The Monroe County Emergency Management Director told Jones, James and his 12-year-old brother went off a trail and were swept off the top of an area near the falls and plummeted about 12 feet.
Christian Burdette drowned.
The Monroe County Emergency Management Director could not tell us whether or not the parents of the brothers were with them.
