70-year-old man leaves home on golf cart, found dead in woods

MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities say a man who disappeared from his home has been found dead.

The Meriwether County sheriff’s office said William “Bill” Caldwell, 70, left his home on Caldwell Road on his golf cart around 8 p.m. Monday.

He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve T-shirt and striped pajama pants.

People from several agencies searched on the ground and from the air for Caldwell.

His golf cart was found on Malcolm Road Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office said Caldwell’s body was later found in a creek.

“It is not the outcome that we had hoped for. I appreciate all the agencies that assisted in locating Mr. Caldwell. I ask that you keep the family of Mr. William 'Bill' Caldwell in your thoughts and prayers," Sheriff Chuck Smith said.
