ATLANTA — Four people are recovering in the hospital including a child after a house caught on fire.
All of them had to be rescued.
Firefighters told Channel 2’s Kristen Holloway the fire started at the front of the condo on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive in northwest Atlanta.
Before firefighters arrived on scene, several people who work for the city of Atlanta Parks and Recreation were driving by and saw this house on fire. They said a woman climbed out a window and flagged them down saying her baby was still inside.
“We were riding by and we saw a lot of smoke coming out and our first instinct was to help,” said Quazabier Dupree.
One of the workers said when they heard a 1-year-old was inside, they looked for anything to break the windows. When that didn’t work and they started running out of time to get the infant, one worker told me his co-worker bust down the door.
“He bust the door down, the flames flew up. They were able to see more and he grabbed the baby, once he grabbed the baby, Ms. Pam was trying to get out the window. So we helped her out the window and fire trucks came,” Dupree said.
Atlanta fire they rescued a man from the bathroom. He is critical condition but stable. One woman has second and third degree burns and the other woman is stable.
We’re still working to learn how the baby is doing.
UPDATE: This investigation is very fluid and still developing. Atlanta Firefighters say it was actually four people taken to the hospital. Three adults and one baby.
