Shooting suspect found dead inside apartments after standoff

ATLANTA — A standoff is over hours after a shooting in southwest Atlanta.

Investigators said a gunman shot the victim in the head at a house on Birch Street early Saturday morning.

Officers tried to approach the house but said they heard a gunshot. That triggered the standoff.

That triggered the standoff.

The units set a perimeter around the house and notified SWAT.

When officers eventually made it into the home, the suspect was found dead inside.

The victim was listed in critical condition but later died in the hospital.
