ATLANTA — A mother is calling for changes to the court system after police say a man who killed her son also killed a 15-year-old.
Police say Nicholas Roberts was stabbed to death in January 2015 in an apartment at Deerfield Gardens in southwest Atlanta.
Dontavis Montgomery was arrested and charged in the case.

Roberts’ family members said Montgomery was given bond because he didn’t have a criminal record.
Montgomery is now also accused of killing his 15-year-old cousin Marquez Montogomery.
“He shouldn’t have been on the street for committing this murder. He took my son’s life and now he’s taken his own family member’s life,” the victim’s mother, Joann Roberts said.
Family members said they are disappointed that Montgomery was out on bond.

"That child could still be here, going to school. He was in the 10th grade; a whole life ahead of him. Now his life is gone because a criminal was out on bond for murder," said Carlisia Green, the mother of Roberts' children.
Rorberts’ family said there is a bond hearing in their case on Monday.
They said they will be there to make sure Montgomery is not given bond again.
