ATLANTA — Hundreds of people gathered Thursday night to remember a man killed at his apartment in East Atlanta.
Police say Alex Newton, 30, walked in on a burglar at the Alexan EAV apartments on Halloween, and the burglar shot him to death.
Security camera video shows a possible suspect in the breezeway outside the apartment.
Vigil organizers say they are frustrated the man is still out there and are asking for help finding Newton’s killer.
“I am humbled and amazed that people who didn’t know him (Newton) are offering monetary funds to find this fella,” the victim’s mother, Beth Newton, said.
She said she is overwhelmed by the number of people who came out to remember her son.
“This makes me think he’s leaving an impression, and it overwhelms me,” Beth Newton said.
Atlanta police and the lead detective in the case were also present at the vigil.
They talked to mourners in hopes of generating leads.
“We are still looking for this guy, because this is clearly his career path and he doesn’t mind killing people. He needs to be caught,” the victim’s brother said.
CrimeStoppers is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the killer.
