ATLANTA — A fire claimed the life of a man battling stage four colon cancer.
The fire happened at a house in the 4000 block of Kimball Road in Atlanta early Thursday morning,
Firefighters told Channel 2's Darryn Moore that they arrived to find heavy flames coming from two windows.
“During the firefighting process our units discovered the male was in the lower level of the home,” Sgt. Cortez Stafford with the Atlanta Fire Department said.
Crews were not able to save the victim, described as an elderly man.
Five other people inside the house escaped unharmed, firefighters said.
