Woman robbed at gunpoint after trip to grocery store

ATLANTA — A local woman says she was robbed at gunpoint after a trip to the grocery store.

She tells Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez she had just made it back to her apartment complex when she was attacked.

"My life flashed before my eyes," the woman, who did not want to reveal her identity, said.

Police say the suspect was at the call box typing in a code, pretending to be a resident, when the victim walked up carrying bags of groceries.

The 30-year-old woman said she thought the man was a neighbor so she helped him get through the gate. Seconds later, police say he pulled out a gun and demanded she hand over her purse.

"He said, 'Give me everything you got. You don't want to get hurt," the victim told Jaquez..

She said she quickly handed him her purse, which contained $800, and he then jumped into the back of a black hatchback-style Honda or Toyota Prius.

Now, after living here for 13 months, she says she's ready to move out.

"I fear for my life every time I get out of my car and walk to the gate now," she said.

A lot of residents told us they were upset to learn about this crime from the media and said management should have given them a heads up the moment it happened.

Jaquez reached out to the management of the apartment complex but hasn't received a response.
