ATLANTA — Police need help in identifying a person of interest in the murder of a local actress and mother.
Jokisha Brown was shot while she was sitting in her car outside a strip of shops on the 2100 block of Cheshire Bridge Road around 10:15 p.m. July 1. It was the day before what would have been her 36th birthday.
Investigators released a picture Thursday of a man they say is a person of interest in the case.
Police said he can be seen at a store where Brown was a known regular customer, just 24 hours before she was killed. He returned the next night, according to police.
"We believe by this person being there the night before, possibly they were waiting for the next time she came to the location to murder her," said Maj. Adam Lee III, of the Atlanta Police Department.
Friends told Channel 2 Action News that Brown came to the area get her makeup done. It appears she was shot through the front passenger side window.%INLINE%
Brown was an actress, model and mother of a teenage son.
Investigators said the person of interest in this killing needs to be taken off of the streets.
“This was a very vicious murder, homicide... Ms. Brown was shot multiple times, so this is why were are looking to see if anybody may have seen this person in the area."
Friends said Brown had been the victim of a violent and elaborate abduction from her Gwinnett County home. She escaped only by jumping from a moving car.
One of her last Facebook posts says she thanked for the Lord for always being in her life, and asked for strength. A video on one of Brown's other pages from a day before her murder showed her getting angry and ends with her in tears saying, "Leave me alone."
