Valet accused of stealing credit cards, personal information

ATLANTA — A valet is accused of stealing people’s credit cards and personal information.

Police say Michael Bethea, 20, worked at TAP at the corner of Peachtree Street and 14th Street, but the restaurant tells Channel 2 Action News otherwise.

Police say he used the information he stole to create bogus credit cards and checks with the victims’ information on them.

Investigators say in one case, he stole a woman's credit card from a car.

"You can legitimately go out and buy the machines and apparatus to make these credit cards," Sgt. Warren Pickard with Atlanta Police said.

Police raided an apartment and found Bethea, his friend Tcal Travis and hundreds of stolen cards. Bethea and Travis were arrested.

Investigators found ATM video showing Bethea depositing fake checks into a victim's bank account and then withdrawing more than $3,000 from the same account.

Channel 2 Action News was told Bethea did not confess to any of the crimes.
