Possible carjacking leads to SWAT situation in south Fulton

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police remained on the scene of a SWAT situation following a possible carjacking late Thursday night.

Dozens of officers surrounded a home off of Old Bill Cook Road in south Fulton County for hours until they finally nabbed their suspect.

"This is just absolutely too much," said Tomeka Upkins.

Fulton County police told Channel 2's Carl Willis a stolen vehicle recovery system led them to a truck outside a home on Jerome Road in the southern part of College Park.

"If there's someone in there, they're trying to get the suspect out. But we haven't seen him as of yet. I don't know if he's even in there," Upkins said.

Fulton County police weren't certain either but officers say they saw the suspect run inside.

That led them to surround the house, with the police helicopter circling in the area.

Police set off several flash bangs to try and flush the man out.

"They're doing the battering ram in the house, glass is flying everywhere," Upkins said.

Police told Willis the stolen vehicle was taken in a carjacking out of Cobb County.

The commotion kept neighbors up and the secured scene kept several neighbors away from their homes while police worked to find out if their suspect was still inside.

"I hope it ends peacefully and quickly," Upkins said.

Late Wednesday night police took that man into custody. There is no word yet on his identity and what charges he may be facing.
