CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies had to direct traffic Tuesday morning after a road sunk and then collapsed in Cherokee County.
The road is a section of the westbound lane of Highway 108, just before Knox Bridge Highway. One lane of Hwy 108 was shut down for hours as crews worked to repair the road.

Deputies say a combination of road construction going on in the area and the heavy rain over the weekend likely caused the collapse.
No one was injured when the ground gave way.
Crews worked quickly to rebuild and reopen the road.
By 11 a.m. traffic was flowing freely again in the area.
