ATLANTA — Thousands of people gathered at The Battery on Tuesday night for a huge New Year’s Eve bash to ring in 2020.
It was a night of family fun that included a ball drop for the kids and fireworks at the strike of midnight for the adults to welcome 2020.
This is the third New Year’s Eve bash for The Battery and organizers told Channel 2’s Lauren Davis they’re expecting more people than last year, when 10,000 people showed up.

“This is awesome. It’s getting bigger and bigger every year,” said Ashley Winters from Cobb County.
Davis watched as kids got excited over a ball drop where the children got an inflatable baseball to take home.
“It’s really nice. We can do the kids at 8 p.m. then the family version later on,” Winters said.
A lot of the partygoers told Davis they walked from their homes to the Battery for the bash.

“We choose to come here because it’s convenient. We live just over the hill and can walk up here and walk back and stay safe on New Year’s,” said partygoer Brett Roach.
Roach said he’s gone to the Battery celebration for past three years and was having a blast with everyone else Tuesday night.
“We’re going to stay until midnight. We’re going to drink it up, have some fun at the bars and just dance the night away,” Roach said.

Dancing the night away is a way for people to celebrate a whole new year.
“We got a new year to start over. A brand-new year to get it right,” said Sherronda Johnson, from Phenix City, Alabama.
The battery was also allowing partiers to leave their car until 1 p.m. Wednesday to cut down on drinking and driving.
