Ex-teacher accused of assaulting students facing more trouble

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A former private school teacher accused of sex crimes involving students was denied bail Monday.

Christopher Brown had taught physics, chemistry and computer science at Mt. Paran Christian School in Kennesaw, but was fired Oct. 4.

On Friday, he surrendered to authorities in Cobb County on charges of having sex with a 17-year-old student in late July. In Fulton County, he’s accused of kissing a 15-year-old student from Roswell High School.

Since turning himself in, he’s been accused of trying to convince his accusers not to come forward.

Defense attorney Kevin Brian hoped to persuade the judge to grant bond.

“I’ve asked for a signature bond in an amount that court feels appropriate,” Brian said.

But an assistant district attorney immediately argued against that.

“We have information that he’s been in touch with his victims, trying to talk them into not testifying and coming to court. On those charges, we don’t want him released on bond,” an assistant district attorney said.

Brian countered that Brown had not spoken to any alleged victim since his arrest.

“He was arrested on Friday. He has not made any effort to contact anyone since then,” Brian said.

Based on the severity of the charges, the judge decided against setting a bond.

Brown’s next court appearance is Oct. 31.
