COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A 19-year-old Kennesaw State University student was killed in an early-morning crash in Cobb County.
The crash was reported just before 4:30 a.m. on the I-75 northbound exit ramp to Chastain Road in Kennesaw.
According to investigators, the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle onto its roof before colliding with a tree.
The victim, Colin Ruland, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
He was a sophomore majoring in business.

“It’s always so sad for someone so young, something so tragic to happen,” Kennesaw State student Lexi Broadwater said.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old Ethan Dowell, sustained minor injuries.
One of the other passengers, 18-year-old Cole Kovarchik, received minor injuries. Another, 20-year-old Jordan Wormsby, was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A university spokesperson sent the following statement: “Kennesaw State University officials were deeply saddened to learn that one student was killed and three others were injured in an automobile accident.”
Students said they will rally together to get through the difficult time.
“Everybody just helps one another. We just kind of lean on each other in a situation when someone so close to so many people is lost. It’s such a sad occasion,” student Devon Rosser said.
The crash remains under investigation.
