Parents are concerned about an Instagram account claiming to post nude pictures of Cobb County high school students.
A tipster told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt that they tried to engage with the account’s creator, who claimed to be a high school senior.
Cobb County police are now looking into the account.
“Who knows if it’s even someone local,” private investigator Michael Deegan said.
Investigators said the victims may have no idea their photos are online or have no clue the pictures were saved or copied by someone else.
“There are back doors, back ways someone can get that. They could get that photo and put that on the particular Instagram site and they would never even know,” Deegan said.
Deegan said police may have a tough time finding whoever created the account.
“Again, it just depends upon the sophistication of the operator, if they are using anonymous IPs or the TOR operator. It’s very easy to be under the radar or do whatever they want,” he said.

Investigating social media sites can be lengthy and expensive, and for those victimized, the consequences can last a lifetime.
“They think since social media is fun, they want to connect to everyone and put everything out there. They just don’t understand that there could be consequences down the road,” Deegan said.
Investigators are trying to identify the victims and find the person behind the account. Most of the photos do not show faces.
In 2013, Cobb police were able to track down a high school senior who posted compromising pictures of other students he had acquired without their knowledge.
Court records show that teen eventually pleaded in the case to cruelty and computer privacy charges, spent two years in jail and is currently serving three years on house arrest, followed by another 15 years on probation.
