COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a shooting at the Jasmine at the Galleria apartments on Cumberland Way in Smyrna.
Channel 2's Liz Artz was there as police blocked off part of a parking lot with crime scene tape.
Police said the gunman was hiding behind a car, waiting for the victim to come out, when he opened fire on the victim.
Police have not identified the victim yet, but they said he was alert and conscious when they arrived.
Three evidence markers sat where police found shell casings from a handgun.
Smyrna detectives told Artz that a 28-year-old man was leaving his apartment for work around 9 a.m., when he was shot at three times.
After the shooting, the gunman disappeared into the woods, according to witnesses.

Witnesses told police the gunman has medium complexion, wearing a black baseball cap with a red and white design, a black shirt and light blue jeans.
Smyrna police said he is a danger to the area.
“Until we take this bad guy into custody off street, he's a danger to other people," Smyrna police Officer Louis Defense said.
A witness said she heard the gunshots and jumped up to call 911.
"It was very scary. It shook me up, definitely shook me up," Danielle Belyeu said.
Belyeu was visiting a close friend at the Galleria Apartments, when she became a witness to the crime.
One neighbor described the victim as a nice, quiet guy.
Police told Artz that it was a quiet neighborhood, and they don't have many calls for service in the area, which is why the incident was very concerning.
