ACWORTH, Ga. — A Cobb County teenager battling a rare form of cancer got quite a surprise Saturday thanks to local volunteers.
Sunshine on a Ranney Day presented 16-year-old Matthew with a brand-new bedroom.
Matthew recently underwent an 18-hour surgery to remove a tumor from his jaw bone.
His single mother has had to take a leave of absence from work to care for him.
Thanks to donations from volunteers and American Signature Furniture, Matthew has a new basketball-themed bedroom where he can recover from his operation.
Matthew plays for the Etowah High School basketball team and is a member of a distinguished leadership club known as Flight Club.
He has a lofty goal of increasing awareness and prevention of childhood cancer.
