CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A crash killed one construction worker and injured several other workers on Interstate 20 in Carroll County.
The crash happened near State Route 61 around 3 a.m. Friday.

The Department of Public Safety said a Honda Civic traveling in the westbound lane drove into the north emergency lane and struck four road-crew members.
Patrol officials said the work zone was clearly marked.
"For people out here working trying to make the roadways better and for this to happen is terrible. It's terrible for anybody,” said Cpl. Jay Trawick.

One worker was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to local hospitals. One worker was treated and released.
The driver was also hurt and rushed to a nearby hospital.
The crash severely affected morning traffic for hours.

DPS said the driver was suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash and could face charges.
Investigators are also trying to pinpoint the driver's speed at the time of the crash.
"Our special collision-reconstruction team will be able to download information from the airbag. It'll tell us what was going on in the car at the time of the impact," Trawick said.
