Store's sudden closure leaves brides scrambling

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Some brides got a major shock when a popular bridal shop suddenly closed its doors nationwide.

Representatives with Alfred Angelo Bridal gave no reason for the shutdown Friday morning.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke to the parents of a bride who drove from Charlotte, North Carolina to the chain's Dunwoody location just to get their daughter's dress.

When the couple arrived at the store, they found a sign that simply read: closed. They stood outside the store for more than an hour knocking on the door but the 3 to 4 people inside the store never answered.

Washington learned many of its employees didn’t know they would be out of a job come Friday.

We tried to speak with some of those employees as they ran out of the store with several gowns but they had no comment.

"I wish they would have called people with completed orders," said Mimi Jacobson.

Jacobson and her husband called the police. With receipt in hand, the officer walked inside and was able to locate their daughter's dress.

They were one of the lucky customers.

When Washington was at the store, employees were walking out and stuffing several wedding gowns and accessories in their personal cars.

When we tried to get some answers from employees, they ran away from us and our cameras.

It's still unclear where the dresses they had were taken.

As for the Jacobsons, they say even though this is no way to do business, they know what's really important to their daughter.

"The ultimate thing is to just be there with her fiance and get married," she said.
