DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A shooting that may have been the result of a robbery shut down the Krystal on Evans Mill Road in Lithonia.
More than half a dozen DeKalb County police cruisers swarmed Krystal's parking lot on Evans Mill Road Sunday evening.
Before employees were able to go home, they helped wash away blood from the sidewalk.
Channel 2 Action News has confirmed with police that one person was shot right in front of the main entrance and the motive was robbery. Witnesses say they heard the gunfire at about 6:30 p.m.
Police say the victim reported he was sitting outside Krystal at a table, when a man approached him from behind and demanded his backpack. They struggled over the backpack and the man pulled a gun and shot the victim.
Witnesses also say they saw at least two young men running from the scene before an ambulance arrived to put the victim on a stretcher.
Channel 2's Nicole Carr called police about two shell casings she found in the restaurant's parking lot hours after the shooting.
The restaurant remained closed for the rest of Sunday evening.
The victim was transported to Grady Hospital in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
