Police investigating fatal shooting in Decatur

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a fatal shooting in DeKalb County.

The shooting happened Friday morning at Covington Highway and Redwing Circle.

Officers told Channel 2's Liz Artz that someone shot and killed Adrian Anderson at the Waterford Manor Apartments on Covington Highway Friday morning.

Police told a Channel 2 Action News photographer that it was an attempted robbery.

Police say the 36-year-old was standing against a car, talking with a friend when a man came out of nearby bushes with a gun and said, “Give it here.”

Police say Anderson then tried to fight him off.

“There was a scuffle, and that’s when the shots were fired,” police told Artz, adding that the shot killed Anderson instantly.

Police are working to learn if another shooting is linked to a murder at the same DeKalb County apartment complex.

A neighbor told Artz that the complex is usually quiet.

“This is the first time something actually happened in these apartments with somebody getting killed, though,” neighbor Terrence Williams told Artz.

Investigators said Williams told them that someone shot at him at the complex a few weeks ago.

“This man came forward after the fatal shooting,” authorities told Artz, referring to Williams.

Williams was one of a dozen people interviewed by police Friday morning just after the fatal shooting occurred.

Williams told an officer that he didn’t see a thing.
