DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — At least two lanes of Highway 78 are back open after a road rage incident led to a shooting and crash.
Investigators said it happened around 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the eastbound lanes of Highway 78 near Mountain Industrial Boulevard.
Police told Channel 2’s Nicole Carr that the driver of a black Altima got into an argument with the driver of a Jeep and then shot the Jeep’s driver.
The shooting victim died Thursday night.

“We believe this may have started about Highway 78 and 285, where the two vehicles had some type of altercation. When they got this point here on Highway 78, we believe the shot was fired. It struck the driver of the Jeep and he lost control and crashed the vehicle on the right side of the highway,” Capt. Stephen Fore, with the DeKalb Police Department, said.
Investigators said they had plenty of witness statements that helped them piece together part of what led to the shooting.
There is still an active search for the driver of the Altima, who police believe was the aggressor in the incident.
