DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Two people are facing animal cruelty charges after police said they nearly starved a puppy to death.
Police found Forrest, a 6-week-old pit bull, at a home on Highland Place in DeKalb County.
Investigators say they were tipped off to reports of a starving dog.
“(He was) so lethargic we thought he was deceased until he lifted his head (to) blink his eyes,” DeKalb police Sgt. TC Medlin said.
Vets said Forrest was near death, and it is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty they have seen.
Investigators confiscated two pit bull puppies and a dog that had a collar embedded in his neck.

Jessica Wamsley, with Lifeline Animal Project, nursed Forrest back to health. She said she had to take care of him around the clock.
“For the first couple of days he wasn’t able to eat body. (His) body temp was so low that he couldn’t digest food,” Wamsley said.
Wamsley said she wasn’t sure Forrest was going to make it, but now he is playing to getting closer to the healthy pup he should be.
Taylor Thomas, 24, and Felicia White, 46 have been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.
They could face up to a year in jail if found guilty.
Vets said that as soon as Forrest is neutered, he will go to a good home in DeKalb County.
