Family says they forgive man for killing his wife, son

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a man accused of killing his wife and son say they forgive him.
 
Police say he killed the victims in their home and then called 911.           
 
Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes talked with the man's mother and two surviving daughters who say they have visited him in jail.
 
The accused killer, Robert Davis Sr., is sitting in Newton County jail.
 
Family members who paid him a visit told Fernandes they forgive him and they even want him to attend the funerals this weekend.
 
Police normally allow inmates to attend family funerals, but not when they are accused of killing those family members.
 
"Honestly I thought everyone was dead," said Kelly Davis about getting the call that her father allegedly killed her mother, Bernadene, and brother, Robert Davis Jr.
 
Davis said she assumed her father also killed himself.
 
But police say Davis Sr. instead called 911 on Sept. 17 and admitted he shot his family and waited for them to show up and arrest him.
 
"I didn't even think it was real until I saw my mom and my brother's body at the funeral home," Kelly Davis said
 
While crime scene investigators were still on the scene that day Channel 2 Action News saw the youngest daughter, Desiree Davis, a University of Georgia sophomore, pull up to the home in an SUV.
 
Wednesday evening, Fernandes sat in front of the home where the deadly tragedy unfolded to interview the family.
 
"I think it's going to be even harder for her once we have the funeral," said Arlene Clark, Robert Davis Sr.'s mother-in-law
 
Before the double murder police said they were called to the house at least three times.
 
Kelly Davis told Fernandes there weren't any warning signs and that's why she visited her father at the Newton County Jail.
 
"I haven't really asked him that question just yet, only because it's still so new and I want him to give me the opportunity to sit down and tell me without glass or walls, just a sit-down father-daughter and just really tell me why. There were so many other options, why?" Kelly Davis said.  
 
Bernadine's mother told Fernandes she forgives her son-in-law, and so does the rest of the family.
 
"A lot of people are saying, it's your daughter and your grandson, so how could you forgive him? But the Lord forgives us, so we can forgive others," Clark said.
 
The family told Fernandes they're having a hard time paying for the double funeral.
