BANKS COUNTY, Ga. — Someone saw an alligator in Banks County about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and called 911, the sheriff’s office said.

The gator was spotted in a grassy area near Industrial Park Drive and Industrial Park Boulevard, but deputies couldn’t immediately respond, Banks County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Carissa McFaddin said.

Banks County Code Enforcement Officer Paul Ruark captured the reptile and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was called to retrieve the reptile, McFaddin said.

Alligators have been in the news often in 2016, having been seen in Cobb County, metro Atlanta and in a Lilburn pond, where a five-foot gator was spotted.

Tragically, an alligator at a Disney World resort killed a 2-year-old June 15.
