Georgia's Republican delegates all for party unity ahead of convention

CLEVELAND, Oh. — More than 70 delegates from Georgia are in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention.

Georgia delegates told Channel 2 Action News it's time for the party to unite.

"I believe that Donald Trump can do some things that regular politicians just can't do and he's been able to prove that throughout this entire process," alternate delegate Jennifer McNeely said.

Alternate Georgia delegate Jennifer McNeely says she didn't initially support Donald Trump, but the Douglas County resident says he's the one outsider who can beat Hillary Clinton and rally the GOP on issues important to conservatives.

"Republicans met the mark and Democrats just didn't, on social issues, issues of family, on issues of personal responsibility of being able to go out and work hard and keep as much of the money that you earned and not give it away to the government," McNeely said.

Another Georgia delegate, Rachel Little, initially wasn't a Trump supporter, but now she says it's all about unifying the party.

"I am fully behind our nominee and we're going to get out and campaign," Little said.

Georgia U.S. Senator David Perdue says what Republicans have to do is stand with Trump.

"I'm trying to tell people who are a little nervous about coming out and being for this candidate to get over it. It's easy, it's okay. This is a guy that can win and actually help turn the country change the direction of the country." Perdue said.
