SWAT called to neighborhood after deadly double-shooting

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a death near Friendship Road and Duncan Ives Drive in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett police said that before 4 a.m. Tuesday officers were dispatched to a “discharging firearms” call around Express Lane.

One person was found with a gunshot wound that appeared to be non-life threatening.

Then, a few hours later, just before 7 a.m., officers found another victim near Friendship Road and Duncan Ives Drive. That person died, police said.

“Fast forward about three hours, our officers were out here processing the crime scene, and that’s when they located a second victim,” said Corporal Michele Pihera with Gwinnett County police.

Ed Puth told Channel 2's Rikki Klaus he was sleeping early Tuesday morning, when the sound of more than half a dozen gunshots startled him.
“We heard the gunshots go off, and then we heard a car speed up the street, and that’s when I had my wife call the cops.”

Puth said the incident was a surprise to police and neighbors alike.

“You don’t expect that to happen, especially three hours after the case where you think that’s all that happened was one guy shot and then you found out it was two,” he said.

Police said the man in his 20s is expected to survive. Officers don’t know whether these men were victims or the ones firing shots.

Gwinnett police were using helicopters to search for any additional victims.

Police said they were not releasing the names of the victims until their families have been identified.
