GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A nearly 2-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car in her neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
Police are investigating the crash, which happened just after 4 p.m. on Memory Lane, as a possible hit and run.
The girl was rushed to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with life-threatening injuries, where she died.
After the girl was transported to the hospital, her immediate family went to join her. Investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened.
Lerssy Leyva says her 23-month-old daughter Valeria was her world.
"She's my princess. She means everything to me," Leyva said.
She was planning her daughter's second birthday party for next week.
"That's the worst thing. I was preparing everything for her," Leyva said.

From NewsChopper 2, you could see part of Memory Lane blocked by crime scene tape. There were also several police cars on the scene.
Officers say when they arrived, they were not able to find the driver who hit the child. Police believe they have now tracked that driver down and are questioning that person.
Leyva believes it was nothing more than an accident.
"Absolutely, this was an accident," she said.
Officers found evidence of the crash in a driveway and in the road, so they say they are now trying to piece together what happened.
