Police: Drunk driver crashes car vertically up pole

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a 21-year-old woman was drunk when got her car stuck up a pole in Gwinnett County Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at Old Norcross and Ingram roads around 9 a.m.

Police say Pauline Bonneau failed to navigate the curve and went up the telephone pole. The car ended up nearly vertical to the road.

“She was coming pretty fast,” said Anay Rodriguez, who saw the crash happen. “I just saw her run because she thought the car was going to explode because the car was leaking. She looked pale and kind of dizzy.” %

Police say Bonneau told them she had driven from Cartersville to give a cat to someone in the area. Witnesses say with the car stuck on the pole and Boneau still inside they didn’t know what to do.

“Everybody was scared because they thought the car was going to fall down,” Rodriguez said.

The car stayed in that position for more than three hours as crews worked to clean up the crash.

Bonneau was not injured in the crash. She is charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.
