Police are investigating after a human skull and bones were found along the interstate in Gwinnett County.
Construction workers discovered the remains in a suitcase in the wooded area along I-985 near Buford Drive.
Channel 2’s Jason Durden was live over the scene in NewsChopper 2 on Channel 2 Action News at Noon.
A Georgia Department of Transportation worker was about 80 yards into the woods when he spotted something unusual.
“He noticed a suitcase and because this was a heavily wooded area, he knew that the suitcase didn’t seem to belong, so he came back and told his supervisor, and that’s when the supervisor called 911,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said.
Homicide detectives took over the investigation.

Investigators said the bones are likely those of an adult, but it is too early to determine whether it’s a man or woman, or how the person died.
“So we’re going to investigate this by the homicide unit and figure out how this person died, who this person is and the circumstances surrounding how the suitcase got into the woods,” Pihera said.
The bones will be taken to the state crime lab.
Police said it could take months to identify them.
