ATLANTA — A RV fire in an Atlanta neighborhood caused damage to a neighbor’s property.
Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department was called out to a house fire on 1418 N. Morningside Drive at 7:05 on Tuesday morning. The owner of the RV, Jim Creighton, said he was asleep inside of his home when he was woken up by the sound of a loud explosion.
“Pop, pop, pop, pop...I thought someone put fireworks in the driveway,” Creighton said.
When he looked out of his window, he saw the back of his RV was on fire.

Creighton said the RV was basically new and it was newly serviced. He said there was nothing in the back of the motorhome involving electrics, but it was plugged in and the hot water heater was on.
He said the RV was fully engulfed in flames before the fire department arrived. The fire then extended to his neighbor’s detached garage, which caused significant damage.
The neighbor, Jay Castillo, said their dog started barking so he got up and looked out of the window and the motorhome next door was completely ingulfed in fire.
“Flames were up maybe 40, 50 feet. It was going into our garage and we had one car in the garage,” said Castillo. “We got one of the cars out, the garage is destroyed and everything in there is gone as well.”
He said everyone is safe and that’s what’s important.

Creighton said motorhomes are “notorious” for setting on fire.
“I heard a number of them do that,” he said. ”Usually in the rear.”
AFRD said about 25 firefighters showed up and quicky put out the fire in the RV and garage, and prevented the homes from catching on fire.
There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
