Woman killed in crash involving stolen car, driver on the run, police say

An innocent driver was killed Tuesday morning after authorities say a stolen car crashed into her car.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in northwest Atlanta.

Georgia State Patrol said a driver in a stolen orange Dodge Charger hit the woman in her Toyota Corolla.

Troopers said everyone inside the Charger ran from the scene and left the woman to die. Police are now looking for the driver and any passengers.

Channel 2′s Matt Johnson got a copy of surveillance video that showed the Charger speeding through a red light and T-boning the woman’s car.

Atlanta police told Johnson the driver first sped away from an Atlanta police officer that pulled up behind them.

Witnesses say three people inside the car ran away from the scene.

One witness who asked not to be identified said a young woman was in the stolen orange Charger and she looked hurt.

“I know she’s hurt. I thought maybe they had caught her because she was hurt when she was running. She was limping,” the woman said.

The surveillance video shows an Atlanta police car show up at the crash within seven seconds.

Police are investigating whether an actual chase took place before the crash at the intersection known for collisions.
