FBI search for duo behind robberies across metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News is learning about new developments in an attempted robbery that ended in gunfire.

Federal agents now say the men seen in a video of an attempted armed robbery of a Waffle House in Cherokee County are also connected to a string of other robberies.

Investigators say the same group is behind at least eight other robberies around the metro area.

In dramatic video sent to Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez by the the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, two armed men stormed a Waffle House in Acworth  ready to rob the place but seconds later, the suspects are seen dodging bullets and scrambling from the restaurant after, investigators said, a customer shot at them.

We’ve learned this is just one of nine businesses targeted by the same crew around metro Atlanta.

The FBI told Channel 2 Action News it has video evidence of this violent duo hitting up multiple Dollar Stores, restaurants and pharmacies from Conyers to Decatur in just this past month.

"The biggest concern of ours is that they’re violent and so far we’ve been very, very unfortunate. And we’re hoping that it doesn’t get to the point where someone does get hurt seriously," said FBI Atlanta Public Affairs Specialist Kevin Rowson.

In the surveillance video from a family dollar in Conyers the suspects are captured robbing the store at gunpoint, before firing shots at employees and taking off.

"They’re not showing any concern at all for the employees. They’re just being completely out of control inside," Rowson said.

In another robbery we’re told the duo punched a worker.

Investigators said they were able to tie these suspects to all of these cases because they often wear the same clothing for each robbery. One of the suspects often wears a hoodie that reads “Been Broke Before.” A sweatshirt, the feds hope someone will recognize in hopes of helping them catch these violent criminals.

“That they be brought to justice, found and definitely stop hurting the people of Atlanta,” Rowson said.
