Long-time fans upset they didn't get Super Bowl tickets

ATLANTA — Longtime Falcons fans are finding out whether they've lucked into those golden Super Bowl tickets.

There are plenty of people frustrated with the process that led to so many denials over the weekend.

Starting Monday, Channel 2 Action News will have special Atlanta Falcons coverage LIVE from Houston every weeknight at 6:30 p.m.

Season ticket holders are placed in a drawing.

Channel 2's Nicole Carr got a hold of an e-mail that said it's all based on seniority, which is what has some people, like a fan who spent decades in the same seat at The Georgia Dome, so confused.

“I'm in the front row on the upper deck, right next to the camera wheel,” fan Johnny Googe said.

Since 1969, Googe enjoyed being a Falcons season ticket holder, so heading to Houston with tickets bought through the drawing was definitely in his game plan.

"The e-mail I got from the Falcons is, it is weighted by seniority, and I thought I had a real good chance of getting in," Googe said.

But five decades of fanfare wasn't enough to land those seniority-based tickets.

Carr has heard from a number of fans who are curious as to how this whole drawing ticket system works.

According to the NFL, the Falcons received a 17.5 percent ticket allotment, which equals somewhere between 12,000 and 12,425 Super Bowl tickets.

On Wednesday, the Falcons declined to detail how they split their ticket allotment between groups, including those senior season ticket holders.

The deal that followed those denial phone calls put longtime fans, like Googe, out of the game.

"They have several different packages for fewer than $4,000 almost up to $10,000 for a couple of tickets and parties and places to stay, but it's a little bit above me," Googe said.
