NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery at a grocery store in Covington.
The robbery happened Saturday morning around 6:30 at the Ingles on the east end of Highway 278 in the Martin's Crossing Shopping Center.
Police said the manager and an employee were taking the morning deposit to the bank when they were approached by a man in a mask with a gun.
The man was wearing all black and a ski mask and ordered the manager to hand over the money and get into a truck.
Police said the manager had or found a gun in the truck and shot it once at the robber.
Authorities believe the robber was hit, but fired back three times. He did not hit anyone.
Police have arrested and charged Jahmar Smith, 28, in connection with the robbery. Lamont Castleberry, 29, has also been arrested.
They are both former Ingles employees.
Police said they recovered a weapon, cash and clothing that they believe are related to the case.
