Man hit, left for dead in Johns Creek

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Johns Creek police are looking for a driver who they said hit a man and left him for dead.

Charles Savoy, 24, is recovering at North Fulton Hospital with severe injuries, his mother told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik.

“No one deserves that type of treatment,” said Veronica Savoy-Osborne. “No one deserves to be left in the roadway and having to walk through fire to try to get help.”

Police told Petchenik that Osborne was crossing State Bridge Road near the Gwinnett County line early on the morning of Jan. 15 when the car hit him.

His mother said he was able to get up and walk another half-mile to a grocery store, but passed out nearby.

“He was basically bleeding out in the street,” she said. “He literally was dying in the street.”

Police said another driver saw Savoy in the street and stopped to call 911.

“I really am grateful to that person shining his light on him and staying with him until EMS came to do what they needed to do to get him to the hospital,” Savoy-Osborne said.

Charles Savoy, 24, is recovering at North Fulton Hospital with severe injuries.

Savoy-Osborne said her son’s right arm and hand were severely damaged by the impact, and he has required several surgeries.

“He’s got a long road ahead of him,” she said. “I don’t know how much use he’s going to have in his right hand.”

Police told Petchenik that they are looking for any clues about the driver.

“There was a lot of traffic in the area at that time, so we’re just hoping that someone saw something that day in those morning hours and will reach out to us,” said Capt. Chris Byers. “We’re seeking anybody who saw anything, even if it didn’t seem significant at the time, if they will come forward and tell us what they saw.”

Savoy-Osborne said she hopes someone will have a conscience and speak up.

“If you know anything about who struck my son that night and left him at the scene to die, if you would please come forward," she said.
