Man who murdered teens behind grocery store posts selfie from prison

A picture that appears to be convicted killer Jeffrey Hazelwood was posted to his Instagram account Thursday.

ATLANTA — Jeffrey Hazelwood, the man who killed two teens behind a Roswell Publix last year, is posting selfies on Instagram from inside prison, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Earlier this month, Channel 2 Action News obtained interrogation tapes showing Hazelwood confessing to killing Natalie Henderson and Carter Davis in August 2016.

Over the course of two days of questioning, Hazelwood, while often shaking and even crying, described what happened when he took the lives of the rising high school seniors.

Henderson would have been a senior at Roswell High School when she was killed. Her family says she led the color guard in the school band and was a lifeguard for Swim Atlanta. She was also passionate about animals and volunteered as a rescue organization.

Davis would have been a senior at River Ridge High School. He played on the school’s lacrosse team and his teammates called him a leader on and off the field.

Hazelwood, 21, pleaded guilty and received two life sentences in prison without parole.

He is currently at Baldwin State Prison in Milledgeville, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. The photo was posted Thursday morning using the “insta story” on Instagram, meaning the post remains on the app for 24 hours.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution contacted the DOC regarding the photo, but investigators could not locate it, a spokeswoman said. “We did not find any posts but our investigations team has been alerted,” Jeal Salter, DOC spokeswoman, wrote in an email.

The DOC requested a copy of the post, and The AJC provided a screen grab of the image. Shortly before noon Friday, the photo was still on the app. But 30 minutes later, it was gone.
