ATLANTA — Police tell Channel 2 Action News they have arrested three men in connection with the shooting death of a father of five at a Chevron gas station in southwest Atlanta last month.
Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri has been following this story since the shooting happened. Viteri said she got a call from the family of Antonio Clements on Tuesday as they were heading to court to see one of the suspects in his murder stand before a judge.
The family told Viteri investigators believe the father of five lost his life all because the shooters mistook him for somebody else.
"They just looked like they didn't do nothing. No remorse, no nothing," Tomikio Clements said, describing the moments she faced her son's alleged killers in a courtroom Tuesday.
Atlanta police arrested Frederick Rosenau, 25, and Darious Harris, 20, along with a teenager, Jujuane Harris, 16.
All three are charged with killing Clements who police say was shot as he pulled into a Chevron gas station on Campbellton Road on Sept. 23.
"You've got young kids out here killing people," Bruce Phillips said.
Phillips told Viteri he still struggles to realize his stepson is gone.
Clements leaves behind five children including a 4-year-old daughter.
Even more difficult, Phillips said, the reason investigators say Clements was shot.
"They said mistaken identity… they out here shooting people that they don't know who they shooting at,"
Phillips said.
Atlanta police told Viteri they anticipate more arrests. Last month they released surveillance video from the gas station which appears to show one of the suspects, Rosenau, shortly before the shooting.
Clements' step father had a message for anyone else involved.
"Turn yourself in. I want my wife and my family to get a good night's rest and go on with our life," Phillips said.
"The hardest part is that he's gone and they're still here," said Clements' girlfriend Kendra Clopton.
Clopton was in the car and had a bullet graze her head during the shooting. She also has a message for the people who fired shots that night:
"I want them to know they really took someone special from this world," Clopton said.
The family also told Viteri they are extremely grateful to the investigators with Atlanta Police Department for the work they have put into the case.
They told Viteri that police are looking for as many as five more suspects in the case.
A judge has denied bond for each of those arrested so far.
