Police execute search warrant on wrong home

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — Dalton police are apologizing for knocking down the wrong door while trying to serve an arrest warrant in a drug case Tuesday night.

Police Chief Jason Parker said his detectives got confused in the dark and foggy night and used a battering ram to knock down the door belonging to Justin Faulknor. Instead, they wanted the man who lived two doors down.

"In this case, it was an honest mistake by good detectives," Parker told Channel 2's Richard Elliot.  "Hopefully, we'll be able to figure out what went wrong and take care of that."

Faulknor said he was watching TV with his wife when the detectives broke down the door.

"I wasn't scared, wasn't shocked, " said Faulknor.  "Once I realized what was going on, I just had a little bit of a look of surprise because I couldn't believe what was happening."

Faulknor said once he showed officers his ID, and they realized they made a mistake, they apologized.  Now, the Dalton Police Department is buying his a new door.

They did arrest the correct man early Thursday morning.

"Things happen," said Faulknor.  "Accidents happen. So it's just one of those things.  They've rectified it, and they've got new a new door, so I'm not really worried about it.
