Storms, heavy rain move through parts of metro

ATLANTA — Storms and heavy rain moved through metro Atlanta Monday night, causing flooding in some areas.

Areas southwest of Atlanta were at the greatest risk for severe storms.

Storms in those areas brought heavy rain, damaging wind gusts and lightning in the western sections of the state.

We're tracking damage throughout the metro area on Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m.

A Flood Watch is in effect for several counties south of the metro, including Troup, Meriwether, Pike, Lamar, Upson, Monroe, where up to 2 additional inches of rain is possible through Tuesday morning.

A tornado watch was issued for parts of southwest Georgia through 3:00 a.m.

A Flood Warning has been issued for Big Creek near Alpharetta, affecting Forsyth and Fulton counties, until 4:00 a.m. Wednesday.

A Flood Warning was also issued for Pew Creek in Lawrenceville, affecting Gwinnett County until Friday at 12:36 a.m.

Meteorologist Brian Monahan said Atlanta saw 1.73 inches of rain Monday.

There was major damage after a tree came down on a mobile home on Bankhead Highway in Carroll County.

Paramedics said a woman inside the home was shaken up and taken to the hospital to be checked out.

A neighbor told Channel 2's Rikki Klaus that she and her husband went to help after the tree fell.

"There was two little girls. He went over there to offer to bring them over here," Kathy Sommers said.

Firefighters said the tree pushed the home off its concrete blocks and they think the home is a total loss.

The rain and storms will move out by Tuesday morning.

The rest of the week will remain dry with temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

The next chance of rain comes Friday night into Saturday when temperatures could hover around freezing but will warm up into the 40s Saturday morning.
