Detectives release image of possible drive-by shooting car

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Detectives released a dark, grainy image of a car they believed was used in a shooting that killed a 35-year-old local dancer.

Right now investigator are calling the shooting a ‘who done it”. They told Channel 2’s Liz Artz is appears to be random and appears to be a type of drive-by.

It happened Sunday morning around 3 a.m on Delowe Street in East Point. Bernard Gunnell was shot and killed in the incident.

Detectives think the suspect car is a dark maroon Mustang possibly a 2012. Gunnell’s brother Derrick Couch told Artz he tried to save his brother by giving him CPR.

"It was like I couldn’t do nothing, he took his last breath in my mouth." Couch told Artz.

The men were headed to Waffle House traveling on Delowe Drive near Montrose when they say the Mustang passed them, driving fast and erratically. Minutes later Couch said they saw a man standing outside of the car with an AK-47.

“For him to be in front of us and pull over, get it together to shoot us, he didn't know who was in van," Couch told Artz.

Gunnell, 35, was the only one killed. The driver of the mini-van was grazed by a bullet. The men said Bernard Gunnell, known by many as Mickey Mouse was a dancer. They told Artz he's famous in Metro Atlanta.

“They know him from dancing downtown PBE Ambition Mickey Mouse doing his craft and he was the best at it," Couch told Artz.

The men told police they have no idea who the shooter is. They said Gunnell has no enemies and they believe it was some sort of initiation.

“Ya'll aren't thinking about what you're doing. For what? Just to have some recognition or praise? That don't get you nowhere that’s not going to provide for you, not going to put food on the table, it’s nothing when you’re locked up or shot," Couch told Artz.
