SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a fatal crash after a police chase in south Fulton County.
Fulton County police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that they were called to the Biscayne Apartments on Old National Highway around 6:15 a.m. Monday.
A woman called to report a domestic dispute, according to police.
Police tried to pull the man involved over, which they said led to a pursuit. The man lost control of his vehicle and flipped, crashing into a utility pole near Creel Road, authorities said.
The man died as a result of the crash.
Police have not released his identity.
A witness who was waiting at a bus stop across the street at the intersection told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach the suspect’s car had no lights on, was going very fast and was being followed by a police car.
He said the car then hit a curb, lost control, swerved, took out a traffic signal, went airborne and ended up flipping into nearby woods.
"Once the car got so far down this way, it had to be turned sideways like this, because it didn’t hit any of the big outside trees here, it hit behind those trees," Kendrick Johnson said.
Rescue crews had to cut away the wreckage to remove the body.
Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach was there as they tried to remove the body from the car.
