SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia teacher and student have gained national attention after a video of a special moment went viral.
The video, posted by Channel 2 Action News this week, shows Griffin High School special needs teacher, Kimberly Wimbish, surprising Jamais Howard, 19, with his cap and gown.
Howard's grades weren't great and he was short a few credits, but Wimbish stepped in and devoted her time to making sure he got the help he needed.
"We just had to find a creative way to help him learn, to help him retain all of the information," she said.
Whether at the park or a fast food restaurant, Wimbish met with Howard to tutor him in math, science and history.
When Howard saw her effort, he decided to put in the effort as well.

"I wasn't in class doing right, but God changed my life, like really changed my life," he said.
His grades improved, but Howard still didn't think he'd done enough to meet the requirements for graduation -- until Wimbish pulled up to his home and proved him wrong. The moment she delivered his cap and gown brought both to tears.
"It felt wonderful because I knew the challenges he faced," Wimbish said.
"(It's the) most exciting feeling to graduate and be a better man. I want to teach kids to graduate and do better," Howard said.
He'll receive his diploma on Saturday, thanks to a special bond between a teacher and student.
Howard said he plans to attend college for sports medicine.
