ATLANTA — A man accused of murder for the deaths of a DeKalb County couple will stay in jail for now.
Richard “Fathead” Wilson waived his first appearance Saturday morning and is being held without bond in the Fulton County Jail.
Wilson was taken into custody Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama, by the U.S. Marshals Service. Police say he was trying to sell an assault rifle at a pawn shop when he was taken into custody.
Friday, he waived extradition and was transported to Atlanta by Atlanta Police Department Homicide investigators.
Wilson is charged with murder in connection to the Aug. 30 shooting deaths of Briana Brooks and Jeronta Brown.
Investigators said the couple was kidnapped and held for $150,000 ransom in August. When the kidnappers did not get their money, they handcuffed Brown and Brooks, shot them execution style and left them on the side of an Atlanta road. Police say Brooks was pregnant at the time of the shooting. Doctors were able to save the baby, but Brooks died days after the shooting.
Wilson’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 17.
Another man, Andre Gay, was arrested earlier this week. He is charged with kidnapping and murder.
