FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Fulton County police say a credible tip has given new life to a nearly 20-year-old missing person case.
Investigators spent Wednesday digging in and around a well on Rivertown Road in a rural part of Fairburn.
Police say three weeks ago someone walked into their department and told them the remains of a missing Meriwether County woman were inside a well on the property. %

Allin Shropshire lives across the street and said he never saw anything suspicious in the 30 years that he’s lived there.
“I don’t know what could be going on in my peaceful neighborhood,” he said.
According to police, the case dates back to 1997. They could not confirm a name of the missing woman or go into details about the tipster’s relationship to the case.
Channel 2’s Audrey Washington dug through a missing persons database and found the case of Lori Denise Washington, a 25-year-old Meriwether County woman who disappeared on July 3, 1997.
Police say they will bring in extra equipment and continue digging Thursday.
They said the investigation is far from over, and they will speak again with the person who gave them the tip.
