TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — Two children from metro Atlanta drowned in a lake in Troup County on Sunday.
The boy and girl, both under the age of 12, were swimming at Earl Cook Beach on West Point Lake, when they went under.
Several law enforcement agencies including, Troup County Sheriff’s Office investigators and dive team members, the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources, the US Army Corp of Engineers and the LaGrange Police Department, responded to the scene.

Around 7:30 p.m., divers pulled two bodies out of the lake.
Sgt. Stewart Smith with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office says the two children were from the Atlanta area and were visiting the lake with family.
“Sheriff James Woodruff and the Troup County Sheriff’s Office extents our thoughts and prayers to the families as they mourn the loss of these two children,” Smith said.
